Women’s Ministries

WOMEN IN THE CHURCH “WIC”

WIC activities include the following:

·        A Tuesday morning bible study (WOW, see below);

·        A “WIC At Night” which is held to “reach down to the rising generation” – high school and college women of our congregation;

·        An annual Heritage PresWic meeting;

·        A Mother/Daughter luncheon;

·        An annual missionary brunch – which typically includes some type of support or aid for the mission organization under consideration;

·        Prayer partnering with others in the Heritage Presbytery focusing on a particular mission organization.

WIC activities and planning decisions are made by the WIC Steering Committee, which consists of just under 10 women members of Berea.

MOTHERS OF PRESCHOOLERS “MOPS”

MOPs meetings are a time when mothers with preschool children (0-6 years) can meet together for support, encouragement, and fellowship. At the same time, their children are being cared for in a MOPPETS program. The once-a-month meetings are approximately two and one-half hours in length. They consist of a speaker, discussions, and creative activities. We have had speakers cover topic such as relationship management, financial planning, and family play. While some speakers have been members of Berea, we have had people from within the community share their expertise.

Currently we have some 20 members with over 30 children. We have had at least one new visitor at each meeting and almost 50% of the members are not from Berea. We have moms traveling from Avondale, Kennett Square, and Wilmington, as well as Hockessin.

As friendships begin to grow, we are meting more frequenly as a group, outside of our monthly meeting times for various activities. We are also becoming more involved with community service projects. We donated cookies to the Sunday Breakfast Mission in December 2001, and plan to have a “Baby Shower” for the Door of Hope in 2002. To aid in our outreach to moms and their children, we are hoping to begin a MOPPETS curriculum in 2002 which is specifically designed for MOPS groups to introduce Jesus to preschoolers.
