Berea Presbyterian Church
History
From the beginning in 1952, Berea has been a fellowship of believers on a
mission for Christ. The church was built on the foundation of the Bible, the
importance of fellowship, and a strong commitment to the nurture of God's
children in His Word. The church was catalyzed by a special bonding through
providing a summer Vacation
Bible School
which blossomed into a spiritual fellowship and prompted the adults to begin
meeting in their homes to study the Word of God and share in the blessings of
fellowship. By 1956 the church was located on a tract of land on Kirkwood Highway
and was known in the community by the "bright red doors" on the
front. Continued growth in membership led the body in 1971 to purchase the
property where our current church is located. In the spirit of serving the
Lord, members worked shoulder to shoulder with one another to complete the
church building in 1973. By 1980 the worship attendance had reached 110. The
worship attendance over the past decade has grown to approximately 250 people
per Sunday.
As the church enters the new millennium we are
focusing on spiritual renewal, building upon the roots the church was founded
upon by focusing faithfully on the proclamation and teaching of God's Word as
well as ministering to the youth. We also are striving to reproduce the church of Jesus Christ in our community as well as
on mission fields around the world.
