Berea Presbyterian Church
Online Audio Instructions & Tips

Audio content on bereapca.org can be downloaded or heard online by clicking on the desired audio format. Recent sermons and teachings are often available in up to three different formats:

MP3

Real Player

Windows Media Audio

Due to disk space limitations, only one format is typically retained online for the older material (MP3). Additionally, the audio messages are normally edited (silent pauses are shortened, prayers are frequently eliminated, etc…) so they are suitable for online listening/downloading (smaller files = faster downloads).

MP3 Media Format (MP3)

Perhaps the most versatile compressed digital audio format available, MP3 files can be downloaded and played with just about any audio player on just about any computer/operating system that can connect to the internet. MP3 files can even be played by the latest CD, DVD, and MP3 players. On bereapca.org, MP3 files are produced at a good quality, 16kbps. The files will take about 15-20mins to download (a 30 minute sermon) through a 56k modem. If you find the time for downloading these files excessive, the WMA file format is recommended.

If you do not have software that can play MP3 files, finding one should be easy. Some popular players that support mp3 files are listed here. Only link to these 3rd party players if you have read our terms of use and understand the risks associated with installing new software on your computer through the internet. (Berea does not endorse any of these products nor own any responsibility for problems/damages caused by the installation of any of these products.)

The QuickTime player is available for Mac and Windows operating systems.

The Windows Media Player is available for Windows and some Mac and Unix operating systems.

The WinAmp Player is available for Windows and Mac operating systems. This is a small program and downloads quickly.

DownloadPlayer The Real Player is available only for Windows based PC’s.

Many of the MP3 players available can be configured to play while they download, so you do not have to wait for the entire file to download before listening. If you have problems setting your player up to do this, you can (within your web browser) right click the link to the file, select "Copy Shortcut" and then open your favorite MP3 player. Then after opening your player, select the "File" menu, then "Open" or "Open URL" and paste the shortcut you copied into the file name field. If you would like to download the file and listen to it later, you can force a download within your browser by right clicking the link to the file, selecting "Save Target As," and then saving the file to the desired location on your PC. You can then open this file from your PC with your favorite MP3 player as you would any MP3 file. For any other MP3 assistance, Contact Us!.

Real Player Media (RM)

The Real Player is required to listen to this media format (which is produced at high quality on bereapca.org). You can download the free Real Player by clicking on the logo/link below (subject to Berea’s Terms of Use). These files are designed to be “streamed” to your pc while you are online, so that you can use your pc much like a radio. To stream a Real Media file left click the “RM” format link. Windows Media Audio (WMA)

The Windows Media Player is preferred for this media format. You can download the free Windows Media Payer for multiple operating systems by clicking on the logo/link below (subject to Berea’s Terms of Use). On bereapca.org, WMA files are saved at a low (10kbps) but listenable quality to balance transfer speed with quality for slower dialup internet connections. It is probably the best option for dial-up connections, where downloading other formats takes too long. Not only can these files be downloaded directly to your PC, but they can also be listened to while you download and are online (like a radio).

To download a WMA file and listen offline: 1) RIGHT click on the “wma” link, 2) select “Save Target As,” and then 3) place the file in the appropriate location on your own PC (which you can then open like any other file on your pc).

To listen to the file while you are online, LEFT click the “wma” format link in the format column above. This should launch Windows Media Player, which will then start playing the file within a few seconds. If a pop-up window appears for a “download,” and your pc downloads the entire file before playing it, you can correct the problem by doing the following: 1) open Windows Media Player, 2) select the “Tools” menu, 3) select “Options,” 4) click on the “Format” tab, 5) then click on “Windows Media audio file” box until the box has a checkmark and the line is “white” (not highlighted gray).
